
Let’s talk about our 150mm Carbon Fiber Tubing
Sometimes aluminum or steel just isn’t enough. They’re too heavy or they just can’t handle the load without bending. That’s where our 150mm carbon fiber tubes come in. We use a carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) that keeps things incredibly stiff and stops the material from expanding or shrinking when the temperature swings. The build A 150mm diameter gives you a massive cross-section. We do this on purpose so the tube doesn’t buckle when you’re putting heavy pressure on it. But the real secret is in how we lay the fibers. We mix 0°, 45°, and 90° plies. It sounds technical, but all it means is that the tube is strong in every direction. It won’t warp under stress, and it’s light enough that your support assembly doesn’t have to be a monster to hold it up. The trade-offs Here’s the good news: this stuff doesn’t rust. You can throw chemicals at it and it’ll be fine. But you have to be careful with how you mount it. Carbon fiber is stiff, but it’s brittle. If you just crank a heavy bolt or a clamp directly onto the tube, you might crush the wall or cause the layers to peel apart.**Don’t do that.**Use bonded inserts or specialized clamps to spread the load out. It’ll save you a lot of headaches. Putting it to work We see these tubes in everything from giant robotic arms to telescopic masts and industrial frames. If you’ve got an overhead gantry made of heavy steel piping, swapping it for these can be a huge win. Your motors won’t have to work nearly as hard, which means you can speed up your acceleration. Just a couple of warnings: First, the material conducts electricity. Make sure your grounding is spot on so you don’t deal with static buildup or shorts in your chassis. And remember, if something hits this tube hard, it’s going to crack. It doesn’t bend like metal does. It just snaps. Keep that in mind if you’re working in a high-impact environment.
