
Let’s talk about Carbon Fiber Infrared Lamps
Most people are used to those old-school metal alloy coils, but we do things differently. We use a carbon filament tucked inside a quartz envelope. Why? Because carbon fiber handles heat way better. It keeps the heat density high without needing a massive voltage drop, which means you aren’t constantly worrying about your filaments burning out every time you cycle the power. It’s just more reliable.
Getting the power right
When we build these, we look at your machine’s footprint first. If you need your workpiece to heat up fast, we go with a high-wattage tube. It pushes more heat per square inch, so you aren’t sitting around waiting for things to warm up. Now, if you need a ton of power but don’t have much space, a high-voltage setup is the way to go—it packs more punch into a smaller diameter. Just a heads-up: make sure your wiring and power supply can actually handle the draw. If they can’t, your voltage will dip, and your heating will get spotty. And nobody wants that.
The build and the fit
The quartz glass isn’t just for show; it keeps the carbon filament from oxidizing and wearing out. We also offer some versions with a special coating. Instead of letting the heat bleed out into the air, this coating pushes the energy straight into the surface of your material. It’s much more efficient. As for the installation, we use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. They basically slide right in, making them a simple swap for most industrial ovens. Plus, they fit tight, so you don’t have to deal with annoying electrical arcs at the terminals.
Where this actually matters
You’ll see these lamps doing the heavy lifting in PET blowing, paint curing, and plastic welding. The shortwave heat hits the material fast. It’s quick. Really quick. And that means your cycle times drop significantly. But there is a catch. Because these lamps hit peak temperature almost instantly, your reflectors have to be spotless. I’m talking mirror-finish clean. If your reflectors are dirty or pitted, you’re wasting a huge chunk of your heat—and worse, you might actually warp the lamp housing. Keep them clean, and these things will run like a dream.
