Ever wonder why some materials just won’t heat up properly? Here’s the secret: it’s all about the wavelength. Our carbon infrared lamps work by pushing current through a carbon filament tucked inside a quartz tube. They don’t act like your basic halogen tubes. Instead, they shift more energy into that medium-wave range, which is exactly what plastics and coatings love. They actually soak up the heat rather than letting it bounce off.
Getting the Power Right
We build these to fit your specific grid, whether you’re running 230V or 400V. This basically decides how much juice the lamp pulls and how dense the heat is per millimeter. If you go for high wattage in a shorter tube, things get hot—fast. It’s great for quick ramp-ups, but it’s a bit tougher on the quartz.**One big tip: keep your reflectors spotless.**If dust builds up, it traps the heat and your tube will burn out way sooner than it should.
The Nitty-Gritty on Materials
Thermal shock is a killer. To stop the glass from bowing when things get intense, we use high-purity quartz. When it comes to plugging them in, you’ve got a couple of choices: *R7s: These are your standard slide-ins. Easy. *Sk15: These lock in tight. If your machinery vibrates a lot, go with these. Some of our lamps have special coatings to tweak the wavelength. They make the lamp more efficient, but be careful.**Never touch the glass with your bare hands.**The oils from your skin create hot spots that can literally crack the quartz. Use gloves.
Cost, Use, and a Word of Warning
Pricing usually comes down to how long the filament is and how pure that quartz is. Custom lengths are a bit trickier because we have to adjust the winding tension of the carbon. You’ll see these all over the place in paint curing or PET blowing because they slash your cycle times. But remember, these aren’t immortal. As the filament thins out over time, the resistance goes up and your heat pattern starts to drift. Keep an eye on your PID controllers. It’s the only way to make sure your parts keep coming out perfectly every single time.
