
Understanding the Medium-Wave Spectrum
Here’s the thing: when you need heat that hits fast, stays focused, and doesn’t overshoot—this is your sweet spot. We built these carbon medium-wave infrared lamps for engineers who want that “right there, right now” heat. They run in the 2-4 micron band, which is a kind of Goldilocks zone—penetrating just enough, but mostly getting absorbed at the surface. That makes them perfect when you’re heating plastics, coatings, and composites. You want the energy to land and stick, not just radiate off into the ether.
Power, Voltage, and Physical Specs
These lamps pack a lot of punch into a small footprint. A typical unit runs at 400V and pulls up to 2500W, all in a 300mm length. That 400V rating keeps the current manageable on industrial lines, and the short tube means you can concentrate the heat exactly where you need it. You get serious heat in a tight space. But that also means your surrounding equipment feels it. So plan your cooling and give yourself enough clearance. It’s worth the extra thought up front.
Material and Connector Design
Inside, the carbon filament sits in a quartz envelope. We chose quartz because it handles sudden temperature swings without cracking, and it keeps output steady. The medium-wave output is tuned by how we shape the filament and the quality of the quartz itself. For mounting, we use R7s or Sk15 end caps. They give you solid electrical contact and hold the lamp in place mechanically, so it drops right in to standard fixtures. These end caps live on the shop floor, so we built them to take the pounding from vibration and repeated heating and cooling.
Application and Performance
In the real world, this setup shines in jobs like PET blowing, thermoforming, and adhesive curing. Medium-wave energy hits the material fast, which helps you speed up cycle times and keep energy focused where it matters. You can expect stable output over thousands of hours. But—and this matters—high watt density needs proper reflectors and solid heat management. If your machine was designed for this footprint, the lamp installs quickly and just runs. Reliably.
